Art Notes
Squirrels seem to live a life of internal contradiction. On the one hand, they are hyperkinetic balls of furry energy, scurrying about tree limbs and chasing each other as if their worlds depended on it. But, on the other, they exercise extreme patience and restraint in tucking away acorns, nuts, and seeds, to get them through the long cold winters that will always eventually come. In my painting, Acorn Aficionado, I begin to explore this whimsical world and attempt to depict our titular character as a resident in all parts of it. The stump he sits upon is a well-stocked larder, brimming with stored food yet, the flowers and verdant greenery of the scene speak to it being springtime in the squirrel’s glen. He clearly has been busy and is far ahead of his storage schedule yet, he still waits to enjoy the reward. I think we all might take a lesson from this critter’s life plan. Work hard as you are able and relax knowing that the fruits of your labor await you! I hope you enjoy viewing Acorn Aficionado as much as I had fun in its creation. And, as always, thank you for sharing my adventures in art.
