Knowing Hogwarts does not have electricity, it can be a challenge to understand how an interior classroom scene such as this is lit. Large Gothic-style window frames and the open passages of Hogwarts architecture to the rescue! With cool-toned temperature daylight streaming in, as seen in the Harry Potter movie Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, plus the blue-colored flames of Bunsen burners, I made the conscious choice for Harry’s potion to be a violet. The vapor’s hue adds a little warmth to the overall color scheme while “popping out” visually as well.
Besides Hermione’s grateful smile for Harry’s help, one might notice a few glowing potion “giblets” have escaped onto the lab table. I wonder if that will cause any problems later on? – Tim Jessell
